Phonics
At St Thomas' we use 'Song of Sounds' for our phonics teaching. All of our phonics lessons start with a song.
Children in reception, year 1 and year 2 have a daiy phonics lesson with their year group. However, some children are taught alongside a different year group if we feel this would be of benefit.
Our reading books for EYYS and Key stage 1 that go home match the phonics that are being taught. The reading scheme that complements Song of Sounds is Collins Big Cat Phonics.
All year 1 children have to complete a Phonics Screen check in June.
