Reduction of PAN consultation
Introduction
St Thomas' C.E. Primary school is seeking to reduce it's published Admission Number form 21 to 15 places, with effect from September 2026.
The Purpose of the Consultation Document
The purpose of this document is to provide information relating to the proposals and to seek the views of parents and the wider community to enable an informed decision to be made.
Objectives of the Proposal
Currently St. Thomas' admits 21 children per year into its reception cohort. Due to a falling birth rate in the local area, St Thomas' has admitted fewer children for three consecutive years. Data shows that the birth rate continues to fall, leaving surplus places in South Pennines. Reducing the PAN also allows St Thomas' to consider having maintained, on-site nursery provision
Bu reducing the PAN to 15, St Thomas' supports the Local Authority position on reducing reception class places.
There will be a maximum number 0f 120 pupils at the school, including nursery pupils.
The benefits to the school are as follows:
Consistent numbers of children entering the reception cohort
An onsite nursery
Stable class organisation in the future
Class 1 - nursery/reception
Class 2 - year 1/year 2
Class 3 - year 3/year 4
Class 4 - year 5/year 6
No split year groups
Coherent long term plan for the curriculum on a two year cycle for the whole school
Retain the ethos and values of the school.
